Alcalá Review Hosts Annual Publishing Party

The Alcalá Review, the University of San Diego’s literary journal, hosted its annual publishing party to celebrate the release of the journal’s volume 9 on May 2, 2024, outside on the Founders East Patio. The celebration included readings from the new journal, the announcement of next year’s editor-in-chief, sales of the new volume and a reception with sandwiches and boba tea.

The student readings were:

Fiction:

  • *Anthony Barbero, “Our Lot”
  • Andrew Dolan, “His Final Gift”

Nonfiction:

  • *Shea Salamack, “When Something’s Rising”

Poetry:

  • *Harrison Seymour, “The Silent Opera”
  • Jack Hartley, “Shards of Glass”
  • JohnAngelo Pezzini, “Sons & Stock”

*winner/runner-up of the 2023-2024 Cropper Creative Writing Contest.

Next year, for the 2024-2025 academic year, the new Alcalá Review editor-in-chief will be Salena Chacon. Salena is an English and Communication double-major, with a minor in Spanish. Congratulations, Salena!
