The CEE Team invites you to join us for a free half-day visit to Palomar Mountain and the Nate Harrison monument, guided by Drs. T.J. Tallie and David Miller, History Dept, and Tribal Liaison Sahmie Wytewa. Nate Harrison was one of San Diego's first Black settlers and made his home on the mountain, navigating the complicated racist social structures of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This excursion is a chance to escape to the mountains for fresh air, community building, and reflection on an important intersectional history about San Diego.

This event is part of the CEE’s new Faculty Excursions initiative: Explore San Diego with the CEE. We coordinate all the logistics. You show up with a curious mind. It’s an opportunity to:

  • Learn something new that may inspire new teaching ideas.
  • Connect with colleagues across campus.
  • Visit unique and meaningful local spaces in San Diego.
