We're Stronger Than We Think: Interview with Astronaut Jonny Kim '12

"I didn't have a lot of confidence growing up... but trying new things, things that I was scared of, made me realize that we are all so much stronger than we give ourselves credit for."

Before he was an astronaut, Jonny Kim had a few other jobs. He was a Navy Seal, a Harvard-trained physician... and he even handed out parking citations at the University of San Diego. He credits USD with providing him the foundation in mathematics to solve complex problems, and remembers the relationships he gained at the university most of all.

This past Wednesday, Kim was officially named part of NASA's Artemis Team preparing to return to the Moon, alongside fellow alumnus Matthew Dominick '05. We spoke with him via Zoom and he shared memories of USD, how he stays grounded and the value of challenging yourself. Watch the full interview here:
