Michael Gonzalez, PhD, began teaching at the University of San Diego in 1995.  He currently is director of the History Masters program.

Scholarly Work

Gonzalez has written widely on the history of Spanish and Mexican California.  His book, This Small City Will Be A Mexican Paradise, Exploring the Origins of Mexican Culture in Los Angeles, 1821-1846 (University of New Mexico Press, 2005), is only one of the many things he has written on the subject. 

Areas of Interest

Gonzalez teaches Cold War history, modern US history, Chicano/a history, and historical methodology.
