This presentation will provide an overview of the entities that fund research, especially at R2 institutions of higher education, via competitive grants programs and how potential applicants can develop strategies to pursue grant funding and prepare competitive proposals.

McAllister & Quinn (MQ) is a grants consulting and government relations firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. The firm provides its 200+ clients a unique blend of services that include grants strategy and proposal writing, strategic intelligence and advising, and federal government relations. To date, MQ has helped clients secure over $1.5 billion in funding through competitive grants and congressional funding bills. 

Tara Massimino, Managing Director, joined McAllister & Quinn in 2021 following her role as Director of Research Development at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. During her tenure, Tara established a research development service unit and led high-impact initiatives for external funding and institutional partnerships involving federal, state and local agencies. She began her career in Chicago, IL, and over a ten-year period, served in leadership and management roles at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she was responsible for administration and oversight of multi-million-dollar proposal and award portfolios. Tara holds a B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and a M.A. from the University of Chicago. She is a native of St. Louis, MO, and currently resides in Orange County, CA.
