Exchange Program
We have several opportunities available that allow USD law students to receive credit at another institution and transfer the credit back to USD as part of their educational experience. Some are available on an on-going basis, while others may only be available in certain semesters.
University of Copenhagen School of Law
USD has entered into an exchange program with the University of Copenhagen School of Law in Denmark that allows each institution to send a student to the other for one academic semester. Selected students pay registration fees to their home institution and are only responsible to the host institution for board, lodging and any obligatory membership fees to campus organizations. The credit for coursework (the majority of which is taught in English) undertaken at Copenhagen has to be approved by USD in the same manner as any coursework submitted for transfer under our academic rules. If you are interested in participating in this exchange program, please contact Assistant Dean Carrie Wilson.
California Western and Thomas Jefferson Schools of Law Exchange Program
USD started a limited exchange program with California Western School of Law and Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2003-2004. The purpose of the program is to increase courses available to students at each law school by offering the opportunity to sign up for unused spaces at the other schools in courses which are not offered at their home schools during the academic year. The program is limited to ten students from each school per semester. The process starts with a request for a permission form from the Records Office.
Students pay tuition at their home school and register for the exchange class at both institutions. A list of exchange classes and registration deadlines for each institution is available shortly before classes begin each fall and spring.
