Predoctoral Internship in Psychology

Located on a hill overlooking San Diego's Mission Bay, the University of San Diego is a pleasant setting at which to complete your training. Training staff are highly committed to offering a quality training experience that will encourage the development of professional identity, confidence and autonomy. Physical facilities are greatly supportive of training, with comfortable offices, videotaping equipment, webcams, and a generous staff library. Off-site time is allocated for dissertation research or professional development. Personal as well as professional development is emphasized in our training.

Your completed internship application will include the following:
- A cover letter.
- A completed APPIC Application for Psychology Internship.
- A vita.
- Official transcripts of all graduate work.
- Three letters of reference from professionals who are familiar with your academic and counseling skills. In order to keep the application process fair, please send only three letters. At least two of these letters should be from clinical supervisors.
- The University of San Diego is a private, Catholic university of about 7500 students. For more information about our demographics click here. Given this information, we'd like you to respond to the following vignette as if you were an intern at our counseling center:
A student is referred by one of his professors to see a counselor at the Counseling Center. He is an 18 year old gay, first year, Latino male living on campus. He presents in your first session with symptoms of significantly increased appetite, excessive sleep, low self-esteem, and irritability.
In 500 words or less please describe how you would proceed with your assessment.
Applications are due on or before November 9, 2007.
Applicants should have completed at least 500 AAPI intervention and assessment hours at the time of application. Applicants from APA-accredited programs in counseling and clinical psychology are preferred.
Results of the APPIC Match program are announced on Monday, February 25, 2008.
This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC Policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.
